The Idaho
KINCARE Coalition
Is
a association of grandparents, relative caregivers, advocates and
agencies who are dedicated to improving the lives of kinship
families and serving the best interests of children.
We are
strategic in developing relationships and partnerships that will
influence public policy and engage communities statewide who will
network with the Kincare Coalition to provide services and supports
to kinship families.
We
advocate for policy and legislative changes that would provide
improved financial and legal assistance and increase supports and
services to kinship families.
We
strive to increase public awareness as to the unique needs of
kinship families and the impact of substance abuse and addictions on
children and the kinship families that care for them.
Principles that Guide our Work:
·
Families are resources to their own members, to other
families, and to communities
·
We recognize the strengths and resourcefulness of
kinship families
·
We recognize the importance of children’s continued
connections with their birth parents, siblings and extended family
members.
·
We recognize the importance of actively involving
kinship families in efforts to develop and implement services to
improve the quality of programs that will address their needs
·
We advocate for and support kin who informally care
for children who prevent the need for placement in the state foster
care system.
·
We support and advocate placing children with kin –
both informally and for those children in foster care when birth
parents are unable to provide a safe, stable and nurturing
environment.
